Here’s a note from the missions committee. They’re hard at work planning a great conference for us later this month. Let’s dust off those chili recipes!

Our 2013 Global Missions Conference is just around the corner and we couldn’t be more excited! Mark your calendars for October 18th and 20th and plan to be present!

The Global Missions Conference will begin on Friday, October 18th at 6pm with a familiar CCC favorite, the annual Chili Cook-off. That’s right, folks. Get out those crock-pots, dust off those recipe cards, and come with your favorite chili recipe to take part in our cook-off (of course, you can simply come and enjoy the chili varieties as well!). At 6:45, we will then go into the main sanctuary for some praise and worship followed by a message from Chuck McArthur, our speaker for the weekend. During this time, childcare will be provided.
Then, on Sunday morning, October 20th, the conference will continue. Chuck McArthur will be giving the message during the Worship Services, and then, during the Sunday School hour (both at 9:00 and 10:30am) we will have a missions panel featuring global missionaries that our church supports as well as members of our own congregation who are actively involved in missions work.
So make sure to mark your calendars and plan to be in town October 18th-20th for our 2013 Global Missions Conference! We are excited to see the way that God will move and impact our congregation!

Over the years, CCC has hosted a handful of events that warranted a full-fledged choir. Last year, Song of the Stars reminded us how much fun it can be to sing the Christmas story to each other, and to our neighbors. We are establishing Song of the Stars as a tradition this year, and to make it even better than 2012 we are expanding the program to include more music! To make the program great, we need to assemble a choir. If you love to sing, please come to an info meeting this Sunday at 12:30pm in the adult classrooms. As we determine interest and experience level in the group, we’ll also discuss adding performances for Advent.

Calling All Voices—If you love to sing, please join the seasonal choir! Led by members of the worship team, the choir will rehearse on Sunday afternoons throughout the fall and perform in our Christmas program, Song of the Stars, on December 6th, plus help lead our Advent services on 12/1. Please contact Hannah Jones with interest or questions: hkj3d@virginia.edu.

Additional opportunities to make a joyful noise, as well as solos, will be discussed at our first rehearsal—9/29 at 12:30PM.
We need men and women of all ages (9th grade and up).

Rehearsal Schedule: 12:30 to 2PM OR 4 to 5:30PM TBD

September 29, October 6, 20, November 3, 10, 17, 24

Morning Run-Thru Saturday, November 30.

If you call Christ Community your church, then we want you to come to Vision Night on Friday. We’re relentless about inviting people and asking everyone to come out for this event, because it has become part of our DNA as a church. Each year, we pause to reflect on where God has been at work in the church, and we look forward as our leaders share their vision for the coming year.

Do you wonder what we’re about?
Where our time, energy and resources will be focused in the coming year?

We’re working hard to make this Vision Night the best one yet. Please join the ~135 adults who plan to attend! Come participate, learn, and let us know how we can do it better next year.

This just in from our Tuesday AM Women’s Bible Study team:

Our Tuesday Morning women will studying “Romans” by Jared Wilson. The book of Romans was Paul’s greatest literary achievement, a majestic letter in which the apostle explains crucial doctrines. We would love for you to join us!

The gospel has power. The power to save us. The power to change the world. In Paul’s letter to the Romans he explains to us the power we’ve been given to be effective witnesses, to overcome sin, to be wholly committed to God, to handle differences in Christ’s body, to understand God’s view of sexuality and to be responsible Christian citizens. The truth in Romans will transform your thinking and convict your heart as you discover the power of the gospel for every area of your life and our world.
