Today I would like to introduce you to our Kindergarten and First grade Core Teachers. Brian and Rebecca Schackow! You can find Brian and Rebecca teaching each Sunday during the 9am service, and SHOUTING their memory verse.

Rebecca and Brian have been teaching a Sunday School class together, off and on, for the past 9 years.  From their first teaching experience in Denver, CO, they quickly realized how much they enjoyed teaching children about God.

They have been members of CCC for 8 years.

They have four children.  They love to be outside, preferably playing games and getting exercise.  They bleed orange and blue…Go Gators!  They love to grill out, cook, hang out with friends and family, and discover new things to do in Gainesville.

Teaching children brings them great joy!  They enjoy being around children of all ages.  Getting to share the love of Jesus to a child is a privilege and honor for which they are forever grateful.

Our Olympic games are now over!

We had a wonderful week learning and playing together in London! Thank you to all our wonderful teachers and volunteers who made the week great! And a special thanks to the Youth participating in Local Missions Week! Couldn’t have done it without you guys!

Here are some details from the children’s week at VBS. Pleae check our blog for more details and pictures and videos from the week.

VBS 2012 – Carry the Torch
Acts 20:24
“However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me —the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.”

Monday
Acts 9:1-22
God puts Paul on the road to following Jesus.
Service Project: Bundles for the Homeless: The children made bundles to be handed out to people experiencing homelessness. These included small snacks and toiletries, a washcloth, and socks all wrapped up in a T-shirt…all ready to be delivered. Each family took a bundle to be distributed where they saw a need.
*A VERY special thanks goes to The Adair Group who donated 60 T-shirts to our project. What a great organization!

Tuesday
Acts 16:16-39
Paul invites the jailer and his family to join him on the road to following Jesus.
Service Project: Goody bags for families at Ronald McDonald House: The children packed bags of items to help families and parents pass the time spent at the hospital with their children.

Wednesday
Acts 19:23-20:1
The road to following Jesus is not always easy.
Service Project: Flower Arrangements for Emeritas Nursing Home: The children created 80 flower arrangements to be distributed by our youth group to the residents.

Thursday
Acts 23:12-35
God provides helpers to keep us safe as we follow Jesus.
Service Project: Cookies to Share: This was a more personal project for our children. They decorated small boxes and filled them with cookies. Then they were tasked with giving these cookies to another person. As you can imagine, this required quite a bit of sacrifice for the children.

Friday
Acts 27
By trusting God’s promises as Paul did, we can share God’s goodness with others.
Service Project: Canned Goods and Encouragement Cards: On our final day the children packed up canned goods and other items for Bread of the Mighty Food Bank. And then they made cards of encouragement to be sent to the missionaries our church supports.

Hello, dear church family!

We love to offer a FREE VBS to our community, but in order to make that continue to happen we need YOU!  We need snack and craft supplies as well as materials for our service projects.  If you did not know, the children participate in several service projects through out the week.  This year they are making floral arrangements for nursing home residents, collecting canned goods for Bread of the Mighty food bank, making bundles to be delivered to traveling homeless people and making care packages for families staying with Ronald McDonald House.

Please look over the list below to see if you can help us by providing a few items.  There is also a poster in the foyer at church with Olympic medals listing the different items.  If you want to grab a couple medals and take them with you that would be great!  That way you remember what items you are supposed to bring.  (I know I always forget!)  And don’t feel as if you have to provide ALL of a specific item…if you grab 2 or 3 packs of whatever it is that would be great!  Every little bit helps!

Thank you so much for your help to make this a great VBS!

*Please bring all donations directly to the Children’s Welcome Station.  Thank you!

Tomorrow, 10 am – noon, we will be having another Bike Day at the church property.  We will be blocking off the parking lot so our kiddos can ride their bikes around the paved parking area safely and freely.  Bring your bikes, trikes, scooters, cosy coupes…whatever you can think of to ride around.  Don’t forget sunscreen and snacks!  We will have a door to the church open for potty runs or the water fountain.
Hope to see you all there!
