I would like to introduce two of our High School Sunday School teachers, James and Rachel Schrader. They will be joining us this fall at 9 am to teach our High Schoolers from the Sermon on the Mount.

James Schrader grew up in Crestview, FL and came to Gainesville to attend the University of Florida in 2006. He graduated with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration in 2009. James is now Principal of Forest Grove Christian Academy in Forest Grove (small city between Alachua and Newberry).

Rachel Schrader grew up in Ocala, FL and began attending the University of Florida in 2005. She graduated with her Bachelors degree in Health Science in 2009 and received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2012. She is now a physical therapist at Parklands Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Gainesville.

James and Rachel were married in 2009 and have been attending Christ Community since 2011.

We are excited to have them here and they are so excited to be in the lives of our students each week!

Last Sunday night  the youth gathered at the church for Messy Game Night. The event lived up to its name once again! Our youth played various games such as: bobbing for hotdogs, The Great Egg Toss, Flour Ball Fight, Marshmallow Paintball, and even played Ultimate Octopus. It was an extremely messy and awesome night! Here are some pictures from the night:

DVD Series: Five Things God uses to Grow your Faith by Andy Stanley- Series begins August 29th
– This is a video series done by Andy Stanley at North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, Georgia. Throughout the five videos, he covers five ways to expand our faith:
1. Practical teaching from the Bible, to application in our life
2. Importance of Community
3. Private Disciplines
4. Personal Ministry: Importance of Serving
5. Pivotal Circumstances: How the tests and trials in our life can expand our faith and trust in God.

– This series will challenge ourselves to evaluate our faith and will hopefully be able to lead to great discussion about real things in our lives and the lives of students that keep us from growing in our faith.

*D Groups meet every Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 in the Education Classrooms

The Armor of God- Series starts September 9th

Every sunday night for the next few weeks we will be studying Ephesians 6: The Armor of God. For those of us that grew up in the church and sunday school, we remember the old activities of creating shields, swords, helmets, belts and shoes to mimic the spiritual tools as found in Ephesians 6. In our superhero culture, we see the need for armor as a fantastical necessity used to ward off villains and physical threats to our life. The real threat to our spiritual well-being is often neglected by Christians today, and the need to guard our hearts and faith from the constant attack of society and pressures all around us are extremely important. We will look at the key parts of a healthy spiritual life that can guard against temptation, misinformation, and disillusionment.

*Youth Group meets every Sunday Night from 5:15-7:30 in Education Classrooms

Sermon on the Mount- Series starts September 9th
Each week we will be studying the Sermon on the Mount in both High School and Middle School Classes. This series structure and material will be taken from Sinclair Ferguson’s book, Kingdom Life in a Fallen World, as well as the original scripture text in Matthew 5-7. The Sermon on the Mount is important to us as Christians because it is the “manifesto of Jesus” as Ferguson puts it. This means that this was Jesus’ public declaration of “policy”, his public declaration of how to live in the Kingdom of God, and how to live this Christian Lifestyle in a secularized, or pluralistic world that we live in. This will be a cool study to dive into and really explore the teaching of Christ.
