Stories from Christ Community #5
I can honestly say we have never received a check with the Lord’s signature. Nor have we be in want, either. We have rejoiced in being able to live, and live well, on less than 90% of our family income. Since it all belongs to God (see Psalm 24:1), it seems such a small price to be paid when compared to the cross. We give over and above because we enjoy giving. Many folks are disinclined to go from where they are to tithing or more. We always encouraged folks to be percentage givers. Pick a percentage of one’s weekly income and give it to the church in support of her ministry. Re-evaluate as one’s faith grows. Increase by 1% increments whether weekly, monthly or annually as long as it is a joyous faith response and not a legalistic obligation. The Lord has blessed us, in part, taking the focus off material things – possession and income – onto faith, the sufficiency of God’s grace. Of course, our giving is not limited to financial resources, either. After all, it all belongs to God and we are simply temporary stewards.
