Why do I need Jesus? If you were at VBS this morning you would know the answer to our Big Question today. What a huge concept to try and understand. As we Join Up with Jesus we find the answer in John 14:6 Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me. We find that we need Jesus because his death and resurrection make it possible for me to join up with him and be a part of God’s family.

Today we learned about St. Francis House in downtown Gainesville. St. Francis House is a place that people can go who need a bed for the night, help making a phone call, in need of cloths or a meal. Each child got to help pack boxes of all the different things that are always needed at St. Francis House (socks, toothpaste, wash cloths…) and then the CCC Youth Group will deliver these items and spend the afternoon helping out in whatever capacity needed today. Each child also got to make a Giving Bank. They decorated their own little bank and it was explained to them that the money they put into their Giving Bank can be saved and then given to people in need.

Take It Home!

Today we covered a lot of ground. Your kids’ heads might be swimming with many questions. From the topic of homelesness when we talked about St. Francis House, to our Big Question. Both were heavy and can bring about big questions. Open up the discussion and allow your children to ask questions. When your kids show you their Giving Bank ask them what they want to do with their money, who you can help with it, where will the money come from that goes into the bank. You can do some research together on area missions that reach out to children, women and men in need. If your children are old enough, set up an appointment to visit the place you are most interested in so that your kids can see where their money is going and what it is being used for. Kids need concrete ways to understand big concepts. Next time you are downtown you can drive by St. Francis House and point out that that is where their boxes of supplies went.
See ya tomorrow!
