My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
\nWhy are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?
\nO my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer,
\nand by night, but I find no rest.
\nYet you are holy,
\nenthroned on the praises of Israel.
\nIn you our fathers trusted;
\nthey trusted, and you delivered them.
\nTo you they cried and were rescued;
\nin you they trusted and were not put to shame.
\nBut I am a worm and not a man,
\nscorned by mankind and despised by the people.
\nAll who see me mock me;
\nthey make mouths at me; they wag their heads;
\n\u201cHe trusts in the LORD; let him deliver him;
\nlet him rescue him, for he delights in him!\u201d
\nYet you are he who took me from the womb;
\nyou made me trust you at my mother’s breasts.
\nOn you was I cast from my birth,
\nand from my mother’s womb you have been my God.
\nBe not far from me,
\nfor trouble is near,
\nand there is none to help.
\nMany bulls encompass me;
\nstrong bulls of Bashan surround me;
\nthey open wide their mouths at me,
\nlike a ravening and roaring lion.
\nI am poured out like water,
\nand all my bones are out of joint;
\nmy heart is like wax;
\nit is melted within my breast;
\nmy strength is dried up like a potsherd,
\nand my tongue sticks to my jaws;
\nyou lay me in the dust of death.
\nFor dogs encompass me;
\na company of evildoers encircles me;
\nthey have pierced my hands and feet\u2014
\nI can count all my bones\u2014
\nthey stare and gloat over me;
\nthey divide my garments among them,
\nand for my clothing they cast lots.
\nBut you, O LORD, do not be far off!
\nO you my help, come quickly to my aid!
\nDeliver my soul from the sword,
\nmy precious life from the power of the dog!
\nSave me from the mouth of the lion!
\nYou have rescued me from the horns of the wild oxen!
\nI will tell of your name to my brothers;
\nin the midst of the congregation I will praise you:
\nYou who fear the LORD, praise him!
\nAll you offspring of Jacob, glorify him,
\nand stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!
\nFor he has not despised or abhorred
\nthe affliction of the afflicted,
\nand he has not hidden his face from him,
\nbut has heard, when he cried to him.
\nFrom you comes my praise in the great congregation;
\nmy vows I will perform before those who fear him.
\nThe afflicted shall eat and be satisfied;
\nthose who seek him shall praise the LORD!
\nMay your hearts live forever!
\nAll the ends of the earth shall remember
\nand turn to the LORD,
\nand all the families of the nations
\nshall worship before you.
\nFor kingship belongs to the LORD,
\nand he rules over the nations.
\nAll the prosperous of the earth eat and worship;
\nbefore him shall bow all who go down to the dust,
\neven the one who could not keep himself alive.
\nPosterity shall serve him;
\nit shall be told of the Lord to the coming generation;
\nthey shall come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn,
\nthat he has done it.
