After these things\u00a0God tested Abraham and said to him, \u201cAbraham!\u201d And he said, \u201cHere I am.\u201d He said, \u201cTake your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to\u00a0the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.\u201d \u00a0So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. \u00a0On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar. \u00a0Then Abraham said to his young men, \u201cStay here with the donkey; I and the boy\u00a0will go over there and worship and come again to you.\u201d \u00a0And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and\u00a0laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together. \u00a0And Isaac said to his father Abraham, \u201cMy father!\u201d And he said, \u201cHere I am, my son.\u201d He said, \u201cBehold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?\u201d \u00a0Abraham said,\u00a0\u201cGod will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.\u201d So they went both of them together.<\/p>\n
\u00a0When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and\u00a0laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. \u00a0Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. \u00a0But the angel of the\u00a0Lord\u00a0called to him from heaven and said, \u201cAbraham, Abraham!\u201d And he said, \u201cHere I am.\u201d \u00a0He said,\u00a0\u201cDo not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for\u00a0now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.\u201d \u00a0And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. \u00a0So Abraham called the name of that place,\u00a0\u201cThe\u00a0Lord\u00a0will provide\u201d;\u00a0as it is said to this day, \u201cOn the mount of the\u00a0Lord\u00a0it shall be provided.\u201d<\/p>\n
And the angel of the\u00a0Lord\u00a0called to Abraham a second time from heaven and said,\u00a0\u201cBy myself I have sworn, declares the\u00a0Lord, because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring\u00a0as the stars of heaven and\u00a0as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess\u00a0the gate of his\u00a0enemies, and\u00a0in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed,\u00a0because you have obeyed my voice.\u201d<\/p>\n
