{"id":3525,"date":"2012-11-15T19:33:51","date_gmt":"2012-11-15T19:33:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christcommunitychurch.com\/blog\/?p=3525"},"modified":"2015-04-22T09:37:43","modified_gmt":"2015-04-22T13:37:43","slug":"opus-is-for-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/christcommunitychurch.com\/blog\/2012\/11\/15\/opus-is-for-you\/","title":{"rendered":"Opus is for [YOU]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the past few weeks, I\u2019ve been encouraged at some of the conversations sparked by the <a title=\"Opus Project: One Event, Four Conversations\" href=\"http:\/\/christcommunitychurch.com\/blog\/2012\/11\/08\/opus-project-one-event-four-conversations\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Opus Project<\/span><\/a>. For all of our similarities, both as Christians and as a church, we are also a remarkably diverse people at CCC. If you spend enough time to get past the \u201cHello\u201d and \u201cGo Gata\u201d, you will find a group of apprentices to Jesus that is in many ways just trying to make sense of the world and our part in it. Friday night is an opportunity for us to talk about that in a way that is formative, practical and encouraging. That\u2019s why I am so thrilled about the Opus Project.<\/p>\n<p>When people start to discuss \u201cculture\u201d in the context of church, I\u2019m prone to jump to conclusions and assume more than I should. Starting this Friday, nearly 50 people have signed up to participate in panels that will get at some of the core issues of life that are often absent from our conversations as followers of Jesus<em>. <\/em>I look forward to this event, and the entire project, as an opportunity for expanding my categories of thinking in relating faith and daily life.<\/p>\n<p>Our four focus areas are in many ways foundational to life <em>in the world<\/em> as followers of Jesus &#8211; <em>being a neighbor, observing (and contributing to) the arts &amp; culture, working, and seeking justice in the world<\/em>.<br \/>\nI expect that, through God\u2019s working in us and through us, we will all be surprised at what we find by interacting with each other on these topics. Just as my heart is challenged and transformed by Scripture on Sundays, I expect that my mind will be renewed by honest discourse on these things.
