It is extremely concise but also extremely complete. John Stott writes: \u201cIt is incorrect to call the Day of Pentecost \u2018the birthday of the church\u2019. For the church as the people of God goes back at least 4,000 years to Abraham. What happened at Pentecost was that&#8230;God\u2019s people became the Spirit-filled body of Christ.\u201d Thus this picture of the church is also a picture of what the church becomes when the power of the Spirit is in evidence. During times of spiritual revival and renewal, the church can return to some degree to this form.
