{"id":3234,"date":"2012-09-26T01:09:40","date_gmt":"2012-09-26T01:09:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christcommunitychurch.com\/blog\/?p=3234"},"modified":"2012-09-25T19:21:36","modified_gmt":"2012-09-25T19:21:36","slug":"reading-mark-together","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/christcommunitychurch.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/26\/reading-mark-together\/","title":{"rendered":"Reading Mark Together"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mark 5:21-43 is Wednesday&#8217;s reading. \u00a0Here are a couple of thoughts on this passage:<\/p>\n<p>1.) Tim Keller says that Jairus and the unnamed woman in this passage teach us;<br \/>\n&#8220;If you go to Jesus, he may ask of you far more than you originally planned to give, but he can give to you infinitely more than you dared ask or think.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>2.) Charles Campbell points out that Mark weaves the root word,\u00a0<em>sozo<\/em>, throughout this text in an \u201cintriguing\u201d way.\u00a0 In verse 23 Jairus begs Jesus to come and lay his hands on his dying daughter so that she may be\u00a0<em>sothe\u00a0<\/em>(NIV \u2013 \u201chealed\u201d) and live.\u00a0 According to verse 28 the bleeding woman sneaks up on Jesus to try to touch his robe so that she may be\u00a0<em>sothesomai\u00a0<\/em>(NIV \u2013 \u201chealed\u201d) and live.\u00a0 And verse 34 reports that Jesus tells the healed woman that her faith has\u00a0<em>sesoken<\/em>\u00a0(NIV \u2013 \u201chealed\u201d) her.\u00a0 Yet this is the same word the New Testament often uses with salvivific overtones.\u00a0 So is something more than physical healing at work here?\u00a0 Is Jairus pleading for even more than his daughter\u2019s physical rescue?\u00a0 Does the woman somehow experience some kind of salvation here?<\/p>\n<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0;float:none;height:100px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"http:\/\/christcommunitychurch.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/26\/reading-mark-together\/\" send=\"true\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"25\" show_faces=\"true\" font=\"arial\" action=\"recommend\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mark 5:21-43 is Wednesday&#8217;s reading. \u00a0Here are a couple of thoughts on this passage:<\/p>\n<p>1.)
